About Me

I am a full time, regional executive at a global multinational firm, one of the Fortune Top 100.

I was born and grew up in the Philippines, but became an expat in Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan and Singapore, as a result of my career.

I never cooked when I was growing up; I considered it a chore I grudgingly did for my Mother, whether it was cutting onions, removing the membrane from cow brain for soup, or watching cooking shows on TV to jot down recipes for her (this was before the age of cable TV when you could tape shows).

When I eventually got married, I was forced to cook; I asked my Mother for recipes two weeks before I got married. :)  My husband was a better cook than I was...well at least back then.

Our expat lifestyle exposed me to different cuisines, and I eventually learned how to entertain at home and cook for such parties. Then I got hooked on cable TV and just learned by watching.

Soon enough, I got really interested into making great dishes for my family and friends. I enrolled in some short cooking classes whenever I traveled. I honed my tastes by eating out in different restaurants, including those of celebrity chefs during my travels.

I started cooking almost every week, and started posting my creations in Facebook, and many of my friends asked for recipes and encouraged me to make a cooking blog. Finally, after years of being cajoled by my friends, I created this blog on December 31, 2013.

It's called MySuit&Apron, because I work full time during the week, and remove my suit on Fridays, in favor of my apron in the weekends, in order to cook.

The intent was to post a recipe every week, which I have been able to do most of the time, especially during the blog's first year. Thus, it was initially focused on featuring recipes I've developed myself or adapted from others. I've tried to put as many pictures of the steps to help beginners replicate the dishes. From time to time, when I encounter a really interesting restaurant or a distinctive culinary adventure, I also write about it in this blog.

What started out as just a hobby became a bit of a serious endeavor when MySuit&Apron was included as a finalist in the 2014 Singapore Blog Awards in two categories: Best New Blog and Best Cooking Blog. It didn't bag the top prize but it was an honor in itself, for a humble, then 6 month old blog that started out as a hobby.

Thanks for all your support, and hope that this encourages you to cook for yourself, your families and friends.
